Artist: Nadia Harris
My name is Nadia Harris. I am 14 years old. I have been painting since I was 4 years old. I have been homeschooled since I was in 1st grade. I am currently the president of Femart Girls, which is a program in Jacksonville, Florida that helps support women artist.
How did you first become interested in art, and what inspired you to pursue a career as an artist?
I have always loved art. I started by coloring with my dad. It went from coloring to painting. I was inspired to pursue art after using my talents to sell Girl Scout cookies. Everyone liked my signs that I made, and I was a top seller. I figured, why not paint for myself?
Do you have any favorite artists or movements that influence your work?
Yoyoi Kusama, Augusta Savage, Bob Ross, picasso
how do you stay motivated and inspired to create new artwork?
Most of my artwork includes women. I am inspired by my mom, my aunts and other strong women who are around me.
What emotions or messages do you hope viewers take away from your work?
I hope that people know that art is universal and in art we all can have a voice no matter the age.
What advice would you give to aspiring artists who are looking to establish themselves in the art world?
I will tell people that art is a safe place to express themselves. I will also tell them that there is no right or wrong way to do art and you should always do what feels right to you when expressing yourself through art.
